Pawn Silver Jewelry at a Mesa Shop That Knows the Differencepawn silver jewelry

Silver jewelry is one of those things a lot of people have more of than they realize. A drawer full of sterling pieces that don’t get worn anymore. A necklace handed down that isn’t quite your style. A bracelet that’s been sitting in a box for years. If any of that sounds familiar, it might be worth bringing in to see what you’re actually working with.

Alma School Pawn & Gold has been serving Mesa and the surrounding East Valley since 2008. We take the time to look at what you’ve actually got and give you a straightforward, honest assessment — no pressure, no runaround.

Not All Silver Is the Same

It helps to know the different types of silver before you come in, because they’re not all valued the same way.

Sterling silver is the most common standard you’ll encounter. It’s 92.5% pure silver — the rest is typically copper for durability. Sterling pieces are almost always stamped with “925,” “Sterling,” or “Ster” somewhere on the piece. This is what we see most often, and it’s the benchmark for most fine silver jewelry sold in the U.S. and internationally.

Fine silver is 99.9% pure and softer than sterling. It’s less common in everyday jewelry but shows up in artisan and handmade pieces. Look for a “999” or “.999” stamp.

Silver-plated jewelry has a base metal core — usually copper or brass — with a thin silver coating on top. It can look nearly identical to sterling at a glance, but the actual silver content is minimal. Plated pieces are assessed very differently than solid sterling, and it’s worth knowing that going in.

Coin silver is an older American standard, roughly 90% silver, found in pieces made before the sterling standard became widespread — often in the 1800s. Antique coin silver can carry historical interest beyond just the metal content.

Not sure what you have? Bring it in and we’ll figure it out together.

What We Look at During an AssessmentWhite Howlite Ring, Pure 925 Silver Ring, Long Ring, Three Stone Ring, Healing Ring, Bohemian Jewelry, Vintage Style, Statement Ring, Mother Day Jewelry, Party Wear Ring, First Impression Ring

When you bring silver jewelry in, here’s what factors into the evaluation:

Hallmarks and stamps. The markings on a piece are the starting point. A “925” stamp, a lion passant on British silver, or other maker’s marks tell us a lot right away.

Weight. Silver is valued in part by weight, so heavier pieces generally carry more intrinsic metal value. A solid sterling cuff will be assessed differently than a delicate chain of similar length.

Condition. Broken clasps, missing stones, or significant damage can affect value. Tarnish alone usually doesn’t — silver tarnishes naturally and can often be cleaned. We look at the overall integrity of the piece.

Style, age, and maker. Some silver jewelry carries value beyond the metal itself. Signed designer pieces, Taxco Mexican silver, and certain vintage styles can have collector or craft value that goes above the raw spot price of silver. If your piece has a maker’s mark or a known origin, mention it — it matters.

Documentation. If you have any prior written assessments, receipts, or certificates of authenticity, bring them along. They’re not required, but they can help us give you the most complete picture possible.

Silver Jewelry We Commonly Evaluate

We see a wide variety of silver pieces come through regularly, including:silver ring

  • Sterling silver rings, earrings, bracelets, and necklaces
  • Taxco and Mexican sterling silver
  • Vintage and antique silver brooches and pins
  • Silver charm bracelets and individual charms
  • Matching sterling silver sets
  • Signed or designer sterling pieces
  • Coin silver and early American silverwork

If what you have doesn’t fit neatly into a category, bring it anyway. We’d rather take a look than have you second-guess yourself at home.

How Loans Work When You Pawn Silver Jewelry

Our loans run on a 90-day schedule with monthly payments. Each payment covers the interest due for that period, and you’re always welcome to put more toward the principal if you’d like to pay it down faster. Pay it off early and there’s no penalty — and because interest is calculated in tiers, paying sooner can reduce what you owe overall.

Life doesn’t always go to plan, and we get that. If a month comes where the full payment isn’t doable, just cover the interest and your loan stays in good standing. It carries over without issue and we move forward from there.White Round Cut Pear Anniversary Women Gift Ring In 10K White Gold

We’ll need a current, valid government-issued photo ID to complete the loan agreement. Before anything is signed, we’ll walk you through the terms clearly — the loan amount, the interest, and the repayment timeline. Your silver jewelry is held securely for the duration of the loan, and when it’s paid off, it comes back to you.

Because every loan is a little different, the best way to understand exactly what applies to your situation is to give us a call or stop by — we’re happy to walk through it with you.
