Pawn Diamond Jewelry Without the Guesswork
Diamond jewelry holds real value, and when you need some financial breathing room, a pawn loan is a practical way to put that value to work — without having to sell anything permanently. You get the cash you need now, and when you’re ready, you pay off the loan and get your jewelry back.
At Alma School Pawn & Gold, we’ve been helping Mesa residents do exactly that since 2008. The evaluation happens right at the counter, in front of you, and we walk through every step so you know exactly what’s going into the offer before anything is signed.
How We Assess Diamond Jewelry
Diamond jewelry evaluations involve two separate assessments — the stone itself and the metal it’s set in. Both get added together to arrive at the final offer.
The diamond. We start by verifying the stone using our Presidium Adamas Diamond and Moissanite Tester to confirm it’s a genuine diamond. From there, we assess it according to the 4 Cs — cut, color, clarity, and carat weight — and refer to current market value to arrive at a number.
Cut looks at how the facets are shaped to reflect and refract light. Color considers the hue of the stone. Clarity grades the stone on the presence or absence of inclusions and blemishes. Carat measures the size and weight. Each factor plays a role in the overall assessment.
If you have a GIA or other grading report for the stone, bring it along — it helps us give you the most complete picture possible. No documentation? That’s fine. We work with what you’ve got.
The metal. Once the stone is assessed, we evaluate the setting separately. We locate the hallmark stamp on the piece — the marking that indicates metal purity — and test it using acid and Sigma Metalytics equipment to verify what we’re working with. The piece is then weighed and cross-referenced against the current spot price of the metal to calculate its value.
Both figures are added together and presented to you as the loan offer. The assessment is free of charge and there’s no obligation to accept.
What We Commonly See
We work with a wide range of diamond jewelry, including:
- Diamond rings and wedding bands
- Diamond stud and drop earrings
- Diamond pendants and necklaces
- Diamond bracelets and tennis bracelets
- Diamond pieces in gold, white gold, platinum, and silver settings
- Estate and vintage diamond jewelry
- Loose diamonds with documentation
Not sure if what you have is worth bringing in? Bring it anyway. We’d rather take a look than have you second-guess yourself at home.
How Loans Work Here
Once you accept the offer, the process moves quickly. We’ll need a current, valid government-issued photo ID and your signature on the loan agreement. We’ll walk through the terms clearly before anything is signed — the loan amount, the interest, and the repayment timeline. Then we count out the cash and hand it to you directly. Your jewelry is held securely in our vault for the full duration of the loan.
Our loans run on a 90-day schedule with monthly payments. Each payment covers the interest due for that period, and you’re always welcome to put more toward the principal if you’d like to pay it down faster. Pay it off early and there’s no penalty.
Interest is calculated in tiers depending on where you are in the loan term, and paying sooner can reduce what you owe overall. Because every loan is a little different, the best way to understand exactly what applies to your situation is to give us a call or stop by — we’re happy to walk through it with you.
Life doesn’t always go to plan, and we get that. If a month comes where the full payment isn’t doable, just cover the interest and your loan stays in good standing. It carries over without issue and we move forward from there.
When the loan is fully paid, your jewelry comes back to you in the same condition you left it.
