Sony launched the PS5 Pro in November 2024 at $699, positioning it as the premium tier of the PlayStation 5 generation. It’s a meaningful step up from the base PS5 for players who want the best possible performance from current-generation PlayStation hardware.
Since launch, retail prices across the entire PS5 lineup have increased. As of April 2026, Sony raised prices globally — the standard PS5 now retails at $649.99, the Digital Edition at $599.99, and the PS5 Pro at $899.99. That’s a significant shift from where these consoles started, and it has a direct effect on the used market.
What that means for you: rising retail prices tend to support used market values as well, since buyers looking for a more affordable entry point have fewer options at lower price points. A clean PS5 in good working condition is a genuinely appealing used purchase right now for buyers who don’t want to pay current retail prices. If you’ve been thinking about selling, the current market is a reasonable time to do it.
Before You Come In — Data and Account Privacy
Before bringing your PS5 in to sell, take a few minutes to remove your personal data and unlink your PlayStation account. This protects your purchases and personal information and keeps the transaction clean on our end.
Back up your save data. PlayStation Plus subscribers can back up save data automatically to the cloud. If you’re not a subscriber, save data stored locally will be lost when you factory reset — check this step first if it matters to you.
Deactivate your console as your primary PS5. Go to Settings → Users and Accounts → Other → Console Sharing and Offline Play → Disable. This ensures your digital game licenses stay tied to your account rather than the console.
Sign out of PlayStation Network. Go to Settings → Users and Accounts → sign out of your PSN account before resetting.
Factory reset the console. Go to Settings → System → System Software → Reset Options → Reset Your Console. Select the full reset option to wipe all user data and return the console to factory settings.

Power and functionality — we power the console on and confirm it boots, runs games, and operates normally. We check that the disc drive functions properly on disc-capable models.

Accessories — any additional accessories you bring in are tested and evaluated individually.
