Coin Store in Mesa for Gold, Silver, and Bullion
Gold and silver coins have value for more than one reason. Some people buy them because they like collecting. Others buy them because they want physical precious metals they can hold, store, and understand. For many customers, coins and bullion are a practical way to own gold or silver without dealing with complicated investment products.
At Alma School Pawn & Gold, we buy, sell, and lend on gold and silver coins, bullion, bars, and rounds. Since 2008, we have served Mesa and surrounding East Valley communities with straightforward evaluations and honest information about precious metals.
We are not a traditional rare coin shop, and we do not want to mislead customers who have specialty coin collections. Our focus is mainly on gold, silver, bullion, and coins with precious metal value.
What You Can Find at Our Coin Store
Our inventory changes regularly, but customers may find different types of gold and silver items available for purchase.
This can include gold coins, silver coins, silver rounds, bullion bars, fractional gold pieces, American Silver Eagles, American Gold Eagles, older U.S. silver coins, and other precious metal items.
Because inventory depends on what comes into the shop, availability can change from week to week. If you are looking for something specific, it is best to stop by or call ahead.
Gold Coins and Bullion
Gold remains one of the most recognized precious metals in the world. Many customers like gold coins because they are compact, easy to store, and widely recognized.
We may carry gold coins such as American Gold Eagles, American Gold Buffalos, Canadian Maple Leafs, and other gold bullion pieces depending on current inventory.
Gold bars and fractional gold pieces may also be available at times. These items are typically valued based on gold content, purity, weight, and current market conditions.
Silver Coins and Bullion
Silver is popular with both newer buyers and experienced precious metal customers because it is generally more affordable per ounce than gold.
We often work with silver coins, silver rounds, silver bars, and older U.S. silver coins. Silver can be a good entry point for customers who want to begin buying precious metals without making a larger gold purchase right away.
Silver inventory may include American Silver Eagles, silver rounds, silver bars, and U.S. minted silver coins from 1964 or earlier.
U.S. Silver Coins from 1964 and Earlier
One area we do commonly buy, sell, and lend on is U.S. minted silver coins from 1964 or earlier.
These may include dimes, quarters, half dollars, and silver dollars. Many of these coins are valued primarily for their silver content rather than rare collector value.
If you have older U.S. silver coins and are not sure what they contain, bring them in and we can take a look.
What We Do Not Typically Buy
It is important to be clear about the types of coins we usually do not purchase.
Alma School Pawn & Gold is typically not a buyer of rare, unique, or error coins unless they are gold or silver. We also generally do not buy non-gold or non-silver coin collections.
That means items such as Wheat Pennies, Buffalo Nickels, error coins, modern circulating coin collections, and loose mixed coins are usually better taken to a dedicated coin shop.
If you have a full coin collection made up mostly of non-precious metal coins, a specialty coin dealer may be a better fit.
Bullion Bars and Round
Bullion is usually purchased for its metal content rather than its rarity.
Gold and silver bullion can come in bars, rounds, and government-issued coins. Some buyers prefer recognizable mint products, while others are mainly interested in the metal weight and purity.
When buying bullion, it helps to understand the difference between spot price and retail price. Spot price is the current market value of the metal itself. The final selling price may also reflect minting costs, availability, demand, and the type of product being purchased.
Buying Gold and Silver Locally
Buying precious metals locally gives customers the chance to see items in person before making a decision.
Instead of waiting on shipping or trying to judge condition from online photos, you can look at the item, ask questions, and decide whether it fits what you are looking for.
For customers who are newer to precious metals, buying locally can also make the process feel more approachable. You can ask about gold versus silver, coins versus bars, and what may make sense based on your goals.
Selling Gold and Silver Coins
If you have gold or silver coins you are ready to sell, we can evaluate them in person.
We consider metal content, weight, purity, condition, and current market conditions. Some coins may carry value beyond metal content, but our primary focus is gold and silver value rather than rare numismatic pricing.
If your coins are mainly collectible rather than gold or silver based, we will let you know if a dedicated coin shop is likely a better option.
Pawn Loans on Gold and Silver Coins
Gold and silver coins may also be used as collateral for a pawn loan.
If you do not want to sell your coins outright, a pawn loan may allow you to use them for a short-term loan while keeping the option to get them back once the loan is paid.
Loans run on a 90-day schedule with monthly payments. Each payment covers the interest due, and you are always welcome to put more toward the principal if you want to pay it down faster. Pay it off early and there is no penalty.
Interest is calculated in tiers depending on where you are in the loan term, and early payoff can reduce what you owe. Because every loan is a little different, the best way to understand exactly what applies to your situation is to give us a call or stop by — we are happy to walk through it with you.
Life happens and we get that. If a month comes where the full payment is not doable, just cover the interest and the loan stays in good standing. It carries over without issue and we move forward from there.
How We Evaluate Precious Metals
Precious metal evaluations depend on what the item is.
For gold and silver items, we consider purity, weight, metal content, and current market conditions. Gold is tested using acid testing and Sigma Metalytics to help verify metal content and provide accurate assessments.
For silver coins and bullion, we look at the type of coin or product, silver content, weight, and current demand.
Our goal is to explain what we are seeing so customers understand how the evaluation is determined.
Gold and Silver Coins vs. Rare Coin Collecting
There is an important difference between buying gold and silver coins for precious metal value and buying rare coins for collectible value.
A silver coin may be valuable because of its silver content. A rare coin may be valuable because of mint errors, scarcity, condition, or collector demand.
Alma School Pawn & Gold is strongest in gold and silver coins, bullion, buying, selling, and lending. For rare numismatic collections, a dedicated coin shop is usually the better resource.
This distinction helps customers save time and get the right type of evaluation for what they have.
